Background of Chiang Rai Highway District 2
Chiang Kham Highway District, under Phrae Highway District, Maintenance Division, Department of Highways, Ministry of Transport, was established on 3 October 1980 to relieve the workload of Chiang Rai, Phayao, and Nan Highway Districts. Most of the routes are strategic routes located along the border area adjacent to the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
Establishment Period
Initially, the office was temporarily located in a rented commercial building at No. 298, Chedi Kham Subdistrict, Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province. Later, through coordination with Mr. Thongkham Khuentha, the District Chief of Chiang Kham, land was donated amounting to 78 rai 2 ngan 28 square wah by Mr. Sanat Phuangphinyo, and an additional 31 rai 3 ngan 64 square wah was transferred from Fai Kwang Subdistrict Administrative Council. The total land area was 108 rai 3 ngan 78.48 square wah.
The location is at kilometer 9 on Highway No. 1148 (Ban Hae – Chiang Kham section), where the office building was constructed and officially opened on 19 October 1982.
Renaming of the Office
In September 1994, the office was renamed to Phayao Highway District 2 (Chiang Kham).
It was later renamed from Phayao Highway District 2 (Chiang Kham) to Chiang Rai Highway District 2 according to the Department of Highways Order No. 1.9/17/2547 dated 14 September 2004.
At that time, the office covered an area of 88 rai 2 ngan 13.88 square wah, located on Highway No. 1148 at km. 9+631 – km. 9+825.50, Ban Thung Lom, Fai Kwang Subdistrict, Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province.
Subsequently, according to the Department of Highways Order No. 1.9/7/2558 dated 26 February 2015, the name was changed from Chiang Rai Highway District 2 to Chiang Rai Highway District 2 (Highway Office).
Current Location
The office is located on Highway No. 1148 (Sop Tu – Ban Yuan section) at km. 106+687.50, left side.
On 2 December 2019, the office was relocated from Chiang Kham District, Phayao Province, to Chiang Khong District, Chiang Rai Province, on reserved land of the Department of Highways, along Highway No. 1356 (access road to the Mekong River Bridge at Chiang Khong) at km. 1+600, left side.
